Who we are. PigeonTales Pty Ltd is a small Perth company. We make personalised printed newspapers for older Australians. This policy covers our website and our email list.
What we collect, and why. If you leave your email address, we use it to send you news about PigeonTales, including when you can order. When you visit, our website platform uses small files (cookies) and records details of each visit, such as the page you came from and your type of device, so we can see how many people visit. We also use a website analytics service to see how people use our website. If you follow a link printed on our posters or flyers, a web service forwards you to our website.
Who else sees it. Only the services that run our website and email list. The services we use keep your information overseas, in the United States and other countries.
Your choices. You can unsubscribe at any time, using the link in every email. You can ask to see what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it.

1. Who we are
PigeonTales Pty Ltd (ACN 700 434 260, ABN 92 700 434 260) is a company registered in Western Australia. We trade as PigeonTales. In this policy, “we”, “us”, and “our” mean PigeonTales Pty Ltd.
Our privacy contact is our founder, Steven Hodgskin. You can reach him at hello@pigeontales.com.au, or by post at PigeonTales Pty Ltd, Bloom Lab, 2 Park Road, Crawley, 6009, WA, Australia.
2. What this policy covers
This policy covers our website and our email list. It is about people who visit our website, and people who leave their email address with us.
3. How we treat the Privacy Act
We are a small business. Under the Privacy Act 1988, some small businesses don’t have to follow the Australian Privacy Principles. Whether or not the Act applies to us, we have chosen to follow the Australian Privacy Principles.
4. What we collect
4.1 If you leave your email address
- Your email address.
- The date and time you signed up, and the page you signed up on.
- Technical details that our website platform, which also holds our email list, records automatically, such as your internet (IP) address.
- If you came from a code or link on our posters or flyers, which one it was, and your answer to “How did you hear about us?”, if you give one.
4.2 When you visit our website
Our website platform uses small files (cookies) so the site works and to count visits, and it records details of each visit, such as the page you came from, the link you followed, your type of device, and your country.
We also use a website analytics service to see how people use our website, such as the pages viewed, the buttons clicked, how far people scroll, where they came from, and their device, browser, and approximate location. It makes short recordings of how the page is used, with the form and anything you type hidden. It doesn’t keep your internet (IP) address.
If you follow a link printed on our posters or flyers, a web service forwards you to our website and briefly sees your internet address and the link you followed.
5. How we collect it
- From you, when you sign up on our website or contact us.
- Automatically, through the cookies, visit records, and analytics described in section 4.2.
6. Why we use it
We use your information to:
- send you the news about PigeonTales that you asked for, including when you can order;
- see how many people visit our website, how they use it, and how they found it, so we can improve it;
- answer you when you contact us;
- run our business, for example keeping records we must keep by law.
7. Our emails, and how to stop them
We only send you emails about PigeonTales if you’ve asked for them, by signing up on our website. Every email we send says it’s from PigeonTales Pty Ltd, gives our contact details, and has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing is free and doesn’t need a password. We act on it within 5 working days, and usually much sooner.
8. Who we share it with
We share personal information only with the services that run our website and email list.
- Our website platform, which also holds our email list and sends our emails.
- The web service that forwards printed links to our website.
- Our website analytics service.
We don’t share it with anyone else unless you agree, or the law requires or allows it.
9. Information stored overseas
The services we use keep your information overseas, in the United States and other countries.
| Kind of service | What it holds | Where it may be stored |
|---|---|---|
| :---- | :---- | :---- |
| Our website platform and email list | our website, visit records, and email addresses | Canada and the United States, and other countries where the platform or its suppliers work, such as Singapore and the Netherlands |
| Our website analytics service | how visitors use our website, including short recordings with the form and anything typed hidden | Germany |
| The link forwarding service | the printed link you followed and your internet address, for a moment | the United States, and possibly other countries |
We choose services that are bound by their terms to keep information secure.
10. How we keep it safe
- We keep your information securely.
- We’re working to the Australian Cyber Security Centre’s Essential Eight, our email and storage provider is certified to the international security standard ISO/IEC 27001, and we follow the Privacy Commissioner’s guidance on securing personal information.
11. How long we keep it
- Email addresses stay on our list until you unsubscribe. After you unsubscribe, we keep a note that you did, so we don’t email you by mistake.
- Visit records are kept by our website platform under its own rules.
- You can ask us to delete your information at any time, unless otherwise required by law.
- Business records, such as invoices, are kept for as long as the law requires.
When we delete information, we delete it from our accounts and from the services we use, as far as those services allow.
12. Seeing, correcting, or deleting your information
You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Contact us using the details in section 1. We’ll reply within 30 days. We may need to check who you are first, in a simple way, so we don’t give your information to someone else.
If you’re asking for someone else, we’ll need their agreement, or proof that you can legally act for them.
You can browse our website without telling us who you are. To send you emails, we need your email address.
13. If something goes wrong
If personal information we hold is lost, or seen or shared by someone who shouldn’t have it, we will act quickly to contain it. We will assess the harm quickly, and within 30 days at the latest. As soon as we believe it’s likely to cause someone serious harm, we will tell them and the OAIC, and say what they can do to protect themselves. This follows the Notifiable Data Breaches scheme under the Privacy Act.
14. Complaints
If you’re unhappy with how we’ve handled your information, please tell us first, using the details in section 1. We’ll let you know we’ve received your complaint within 15 working days and give you our answer within 30 days.
If you’re not happy with our answer, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner (OAIC): www.oaic.gov.au, phone 1300 363 992, or GPO Box 5218, Sydney NSW 2001. Because we’re a small business, the OAIC may not be able to deal with every complaint about us. We’ll still do our best to put things right.
15. Changes to this policy
We’ll update this policy when the way we handle information changes. The date at the top shows when it last changed. If a change affects how we use information you’ve already given us, we’ll tell you before it takes effect.
